The Sudanese Economics Association was established in June 2020, with the aim of bridging the prevailing gap in the participation of economics in politics and academic fields in Sudan. Driven by the enthusiasm of its founders and members; it aims at building capacities, encouraging and enhancing the contributions of women economists and young women seeking to obtain degrees in economics. SWEA strives to achieve this by providing a platform to bring together the Sudanese economists, providing opportunities for networking and enriching the economic research space through contributions from its members.

The Sudanese Economics Association was established in June 2020, with the aim of bridging the prevailing gap in the participation of economics in politics and academic fields in Sudan. Driven by the enthusiasm of its founders and members; it aims at building capacities, encouraging and enhancing the contributions of women economists and young women seeking to obtain degrees in economics. SWEA strives to achieve this by providing a platform to bring together the Sudanese economists, providing opportunities for networking and enriching the economic research space through contributions from its members.
The project focused on conducting an online training to build the research capacity of young economists in under-represented states and conflict areas: Nyala, El-Fasher, El-Gedaref and Kassala. A training program has been designed to introduce students to the basics of scientific research in economics. The training spanned over 2 days. And the module involved several methods of teaching such as lectures and discussions. On the last day the students present research ideas which they will develop into research proposals. Sub-groups have been established under the supervision of the association members with expertise to supervise the students.Through the training SWEA was able to create a correspondence network in the targeted states.
The project was led by Ms. Zuhal Elnour, Zuhal is an agricultural economist based in Germany. She is a senior researcher at the Center for Agricultural Economics and Policy Research in Wad Medani, Sudan. Her research interests in the economic sub-fields include: development economics, economic modeling, labor market economics, and behavioral economics. Ms. Elnour has more than 10 years of professional and research experience with many local and international organizations and research units such as the World Bank, the Albrecht Thaer Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences in Berlin, and the Institute for Agricultural Policy and Markets, Hoffenheim University in Berlin. Germany . She is an active member of the Sudanese Women Economists Association (SWEA), the Sudan Conservation Society, and other professional networks.

Upon completion each student was given a certificate signifying their participation in the 3 day training program.
